About

On the top of Calton Hill, the historic City Observatory is now home to Collective, a charity and contemporary art gallery that opens its walled site for small hilltop weddings. The Observatory itself takes 30 guests seated for a private ceremony, followed by drinks inside and out on the Viewing Platform with the whole of Edinburgh laid out below. For something smaller still, the Library holds up to 10 with views across the north of the city to the Firth of Forth, and the domed City Dome seats 40 when exhibitions allow. Hire is dry and private for seven hours, so couples bring their own caterer and work with one of the gallery's recommended planners. Art, astronomy and one of the best views in Scotland, all in one quiet afternoon.

What makes it special

  • Exclusive use of the historic City Observatory and Viewing Platform on Calton Hill
  • Library ceremonies for up to 10 guests with views to the Firth of Forth
  • A working contemporary art gallery run as a charity
