For a smaller wedding at Kingscote Barn, the upstairs gallery is the space to know about. The main barn and the Linhay terrace are set up for bigger crowds of up to 150, so couples with a shorter guest list can marry in the gallery instead, while One Tree Hill gives an open-air option with countryside all around, about five minutes' walk along a gravel path. The venue is licensed, with the Gloucestershire registration service conducting civil ceremonies. Humanist ceremonies, blessings and civil partnerships are all welcome too. If rain looks likely, the team prepares an indoor aisle as a backup and makes the call the day before.

Food comes from a shortlist of four approved caterers, Epic Catering, Relish, Strawberry Field and Hey Pesto, so bringing in an outside caterer is not an option. Styles run from sharing boards and live barbecue cooking to plated dinners, with a Courtyard Kitchen serving wood-fired pizza, tacos and burgers later in the evening. Drinks are refreshingly flexible: you can supply your own and the venue charges no corkage, though caterers add a per-guest fee for glassware and staff. The bar takes cards only, so let guests know.

Up to 50 people can sleep on site, which for a small wedding means most of your guests can stay. There are six wooden pods, three woodland lodges, a shepherd's hut, five ensuite rooms in the Tallet House, a private room called The Retreat with an outdoor bath, Spring Cottage sleeping eight and the Treehouse suite for the two of you. Two more cottages, South Lodge and Tuppence Barn, sit within a mile. Dogs can join the ceremony and a few pods take them overnight.

The barn is on Binley Farm near Kingscote, with Cam and Dursley and Stroud stations each roughly eight miles away. A step-free route links the ceremony, dinner and bedrooms, with ramps through the barn, but the gallery itself is not ramped, so bear that in mind if anyone uses a wheelchair. On-site rooms are room only and guests book through a link you share with them.
