Charlotte House is a design-led boutique hotel in Lincoln's Cathedral Quarter, directly across the road from the castle, and every wedding here is booked on an exclusive-use basis. That matters for a small group: with only 14 bedrooms, the whole building becomes yours for the night, and your guests can wake up and have breakfast together the next morning without other hotel guests around.

The building itself dates from 1938 and leans into its Art Deco character. There are three spaces to work with. The Orangery is the main room for dining and dancing, built around a 19-metre wall of glass looking onto planting, with air conditioning and sound built in. The Lounge is a smaller Art Deco bar for cocktails later in the evening, and the south-facing Terrace suits summer drinks receptions, long lunches or a barbecue or hog roast. The hotel describes itself as a venue for both the ceremony and the reception, so it is worth asking which room is used for vows.

The hotel's culinary team can do a formal sit-down meal, a more relaxed buffet or afternoon tea. Each bedroom is named after one of the nurses who once lived in the building, a nice detail for guests to discover. Uphill Lincoln puts the cathedral and the bars and restaurants of Bailgate on the doorstep, so guests arriving early or staying on have plenty to fill a weekend.
