Allington Manor is a Jacobean house in the village of Allington, just outside Grantham, on the edge of the Vale of Belvoir. The family has been hosting weddings here for close to 20 years and lives in a separate part of the house, so the rooms you hire are yours alone for the day. Newark is a short drive, and Stamford, Oakham and Melton Mowbray are all within easy reach.

Small numbers are where the house works best. Indoor ceremonies take place in the drawing room or the 16th-century hall for up to 50 guests, and the garden pergola can host up to 80. The drawing room then seats 36 for a sit-down meal, or around 40 if you go for sharing platters. Holy Trinity Church, a short walk along a path from the house, seats 100 if you want a church service. There is no minimum guest number, which makes it a real option for elopements and micro weddings, and a marquee is the route if your list grows.

Six en-suite guest rooms come with wedding hire and a cooked breakfast is included for those staying. Overflow rooms are available at The Barn and Coach House and at The Welby Arms over the village green. Formal dining uses the venue's nominated caterer, while food trucks, hog roasts or pizza ovens can come from a supplier of your choosing. The in-house bar is stocked and staffed, and you cannot bring your own wine or champagne.

A few practical points. Music and drinks finish at 11pm. Civil ceremonies need a registrar from Lincolnshire County Council, booked separately. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in the shared rooms and garden. Accessibility is limited: the ground floor and gardens are reachable by wheelchair with some small steps and gravel, but there is no lift and the bedrooms are upstairs.
