The Old Vicarage is an exclusive-use wedding venue set within a beautifully restored Victorian country house in Southwell, Nottinghamshire. This intimate celebration space offers eight boutique en-suite bedrooms, allowing guests to stay overnight and enjoy the house as a private retreat. The Old Vicarage was built in 1847 as the vicarage for Holy Trinity Church next door, later became a retirement and respite home, then closed in 1999 and fell into disrepair until the current family owners bought and restored it. It now runs as a family-owned house that hosts only a limited number of weddings each year, and only ever one at a time, so the place is entirely yours for the day.

The house holds up to 80 for the ceremony and meal and 100 in the evening, which means a group of 30 to 50 feels relaxed rather than lost. There are four licensed ceremony spots, inside and out, with Nottinghamshire registrars booked directly, and local churches are nearby if you would rather a religious service. After the vows, drinks and canapés move into the bar lounge with its marble bar or the front room with its open fire, spilling into the gardens in warmer months. The orangery opens onto the garden, which has a lavender path, a greenhouse and a firepit.

Food is handled by catering partners rather than an in-house kitchen, which gives you a lot of freedom: you work out the menu directly with your chosen caterer, whether that is a barbecue, an oyster bar, sharing platters or something more formal. An antique garden bar can be hired, and a curated supplier directory is shared once you book, though you can bring your own.

All eight en-suite bedrooms are included, sleeping up to 16 adults and four children, with breakfast the next morning. Standard hire runs from 10am on the day until 11am the following morning, and you can add the night before or take the whole weekend for a rehearsal dinner and Sunday brunch. Southwell is around 30 minutes from Nottingham and a little over an hour from London by train, and a coordinator looks after the day itself.
