The rooms at the Fox and Goose come in useful sizes for a small wedding. The Orangery takes civil ceremonies for under 40 guests from Monday to Friday and seats up to 40 for the meal, while the Priory Room seats up to 12 for a very small wedding meal. The Abbey Suite handles up to 100 for a ceremony and meal. A ceremony-only booking can use any room from Monday to Wednesday, and on those days, plus Thursdays until 6pm outside bank holidays, you can hire the Orangery and the Old Pub Snug privately.
Outside, the embankment is licensed for ceremonies and kept for you all day, with the Abbey Suite as the fallback if the weather turns. It also lends itself to a barbecue or hog roast, a horsebox bar with covered benches, a stretch tent or simply lawn games. Whatever you choose, yours is guaranteed to be the only wedding at the venue that day.
The venue publishes its own wedding menus and wine list, covering wedding breakfasts, buffet options and daytime and evening choices, and reception hire comes with a licence running to 1am.
The practical caveat is that there are no bedrooms on site. Guests can pitch camping or bell tents in the top field, and campervans can stay overnight in the car park, but most will book nearby. The Hide Hotel is two minutes away, Robin Hood Farm B&B three minutes and the Cavendish and the Devonshire Arms at Baslow about six, while Chesterfield's chain hotels are around 12 to 13 minutes by car. Helpfully, the venue runs a free 15-seat shuttle to and from local hotels, B&Bs and campsites if you arrange it in advance. The venue sits at Wigley, outside Chesterfield, with wide views across the Peak District National Park.
