Woodside Lodge is an exclusive 5-star private estate nestled on the edge of Loch Goil in Scotland's West Highlands, spanning 12 acres of mature woodland. Ideal for intimate weddings and elopements, the venue offers charming accommodation including the romantic Seal Cabin and Red Squirrel Cottage, each with private outdoor space. With two decades of wedding hosting experience, the lodge provides bespoke catering featuring fresh local ingredients from its kitchen garden, prepared by an award-winning chef. The tranquil, natural setting creates a memorable backdrop for small celebrations and gatherings.

Woodside Lodge has shrunk its wedding offer down to the very smallest scale, which is exactly its appeal. The main lodge is now a private family home and the restaurant no longer runs as before, so weddings here are elopements for two to six people or small weddings for up to eight. Whichever you choose, the estate is yours alone for the booking, with no other visitors or events on site.

There are three places to say your vows: beneath a birch tree on the loch front, in the newer wedding pavilion with views across the water or inside a Victorian greenhouse. Food remains a big part of the experience. The chef designs a tasting menu around your dietary needs, using produce from the estate's own kitchen garden, and couples staying in Seal Cabin eat their wedding meal in the potting shed. The lodge holds two AA rosettes and was named Britain's best restaurant with rooms at the 2019 AA Awards.

Accommodation is intimate. Seal Cabin sits right on the water's edge with a wood-burning stove and sleeps two, while Red Squirrel Cottage, the lodge's former stables on the shore of the loch, sleeps two or six. A third cottage beside a mountain stream is on its way. Dogs are welcome across the estate, though not in the bedrooms. The team can organise the whole day and provide witnesses, and they work with recommended photographers, florists and hair and make-up artists.

The practical caveat is the legal side. Marriage notices in Scotland must be lodged with the local registration office, here in Dunoon, at least 29 days before the ceremony, and registrar and photographer fees are not always included in the package price, so check what yours covers. With guest numbers capped at eight, this is firmly a place for an elopement or a very small gathering.
