Alpheton Hall Barns is a historic Suffolk barn and woodland wedding venue set within 25 acres of meadows and woodland near Sudbury, on the Suffolk/Essex border. This exclusive-use venue offers separate ceremony and reception barns with flexible styling options, accommodating up to 200 guests with no minimum. The relaxed, rustic setting is licensed for civil ceremonies in either the barn or woodland, with ample outdoor space for photographs and celebrations. The family-run venue, owned by Carol and Nic Willcocks since 1940, provides tables, chairs, bar kitchens and facilities included, welcoming couples' choice of suppliers and personal touches to create uniquely memorable celebrations.

Alpheton Hall Barns sits on the Suffolk side of the Suffolk and Essex border, and the hall and barns have been in the Willcocks family since 1940. They have hosted weddings here for more than 15 years and have restored the barns using traditional building methods, planting hedges and trees and leaving areas of wildflowers as they go. Hire runs over three days, so you get the afternoon before to decorate and the morning after to clear, which takes a lot of pressure off the day itself.

The barns are set up for up to 200, but the venue says both the ceremony and reception spaces can be rearranged for a much smaller wedding, and there is no minimum number. Civil ceremonies can be held in the West Barn or out in the Woodland Ceremony Glade, with the barn as the fallback if the weather turns. The parish church of St Peter and St Paul is right next door for couples who meet its criteria, and it seats around 90. Celebrant and faith-led ceremonies are welcome too.

You bring in your own caterers and suppliers, with the venue's list as a starting point, and there is no corkage charge. Tables, chairs, bar kitchens and toilets are part of the hire, the barns are heated for winter weddings, and your own dogs are welcome. A few house rules to note: confetti must be petals or dried flowers and only in the confetti garden, fireworks and sky lanterns are not allowed, and the party wraps up at midnight.

Guests can stay in Long Melford, Lavenham, Sudbury or Bury St Edmunds, all with a spread of options. Sudbury station is about seven miles away and London Stansted roughly 39, which keeps travel simple for anyone coming from further afield.
